Olivia Hale nail polish

By on March 16, 2018 in Reviews , Swatches

A huge Home Bargains shop opened close to me not long ago and I obviously wandered to the nail polish section as a priority during my shopping trip. To be honest, the overall selection of nail polish was poor, if we are talking about variety in brands. I noticed that the only brand they were selling was their own Olivia Hale nail polish. I picked a few colours to show you today.

Olivia Hale nail polish review

Olivia Hale nail polish retails for £0.99 per bottle. The polish comes in a professional looking box and all the polishes have a name which is a nice touch. The bottles are 11ml and have a flat ‘bushy’ brush. Application wise the brush was okay. Not the best as I would have preferred it slimmer or more round brush, but I did manage to get fairly close to the cuticle with it.

The formulas were fine to apply, however carry a unique scent. I call it the ‘cheap polish smell’. I really dislike smelly polishes so I was quite disappointed.

Olivia Hale Mulberry

Mulberry is a dark red nail polish with creme finish. I really loved the colour of this polish. What it did after applying the top coat, I did not. It shrank within minutes leaving little crinkles at the edges of the polish. Very weird, first time I have experienced it. I was wearing Poshe top coat with it. I also tested it out using a different top coat – Sally Hansen Insta-Dri top coat and the result was different, so that’s my bad.

It was opaque in two to three coats. Literally, I am wearing two coats on my middle and ring finger and three on the rest. So it really depends on the application, but the overall finish was still slightly patchy. This one is a pass for me.

Olivia Hale Purple Rain

Purple Rain is a dark brownish purple polish full of golden colourful flakes. The polish was surprisingly opaque. On the swatches I am wearing two coats of polish with no top coat. This really is a beautiful polish, I’m gutted about the smell.

Olivia Hale Galactic

Galactic is a black polish full of silver glitter. On the swatches I am wearing three coats with Sally Hansen Insta-Dri top coat. The black base is a bit sheer, but builds up quite nicely leaving some depth into the finish. I really liked it. But again, shame about the smell :(

And here’s to show you a bit of nail art using the three polishes. I used Purple Rain for stamping and it did okay.

Let me know if you have tried Olivia Hale polishes in the comments. And, if you know who is Olivia Hale please tell me because I am so curious and Google is not helping me!!

Thanks for reading xxx

Purple Rain is quite gorgeous. Galactic is nice too, but once you get to three coats of a single polish, I tend to pass. That always irks me.
